Program Track: Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Oral Diagnosis.

Course Description: The unprecedented COVID-19 epidemic and the wide-ranging response to it may be one of the most memorable events of the twenty-first century. Most of the diversity in response is due to a lack of understanding about the virus, its origins, and the symptoms of the disease; as well as consistent information about how to best treat the disease and control spread. This lack of knowledge has spawned many myths, some of which are adversely affecting human health. The aim of this webinar moderated by Dr. William Giannobile and presented by Dr. Purnima Kumar is to explain the biological underpinnings of this disease, and to dissect fact from fiction. Original broadcast on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. CT.

Educational Objectives:

·         Understand the biology of viral infections, especially those of zoonotic origin

·         Explore the science behind creation of vaccines to combat viral diseases

·         Appreciate the rationale for containment and restriction-of-movement guidelines
